Ville to Ville …

From Statesville to Asheville to Knoxville to Crossville before Nashville. Ville to Ville to Ville to Ville. And we joke about the French? I think perhaps that they have gotten under our skin without us noticing.

We arrived in North Carolina right after the arrival of Spring. The welcomed sight of the first Spring blooms. Cherry and Crocus and Daffodils and Magnolia in their first tentative peek out from an unforgiving Winter. Perhaps Biltmore Estate was seen through jaundiced eyes the first time; the second time I saw it anew and it was much more impressive. It helps to pay attention, to pay for an audio tour, and to dedicate the day. So true love and romance does or did exist? And also tragedy and untimely death even for the monied and the gentry. The sad legacy of George Vanderbilt.

We pressed on afterwards to make up much time spent in North Carolina with a race to Tennessee driving into the night and gained time when we entered Central Time. I would like to think that we planned this, but it was simple serendipity. As the altitude dropped 2,100 feet to 800 feet, the temperature rose from 49 degrees to 54 degrees. And Phoenix beckons with temperatures in the 80s.

I am traveling vicariously with you. Thanks for Asheville tour. That was voted best place to live a few years ago. Not the mansion, the city. Graceland tomorrow! Where poor boys and pilgrims all will be received. Can’t wait for your impressions.
